So, just what should you do to be successful in your broker’s license exam? Here’s the some great advice we have to offer, directly from school founder, David McGowan.
“I’ve seen people freeze up with test anxiety”, says McGowan. If you’ve taken the course and studied, you will be ready.”
Studying and preeping for an exam is something many of us have not done in awhile! So here are the items that he shares for doing your best:
1.Upon arrival, close your eyes and relax. You cannot do your best if you are super tense. Some studies show that chewing gum can help with memory recall, so perhaps give that a try if you are a gum person. Get a good night’s sleep if at all possible, and eat two hours before you arrive so you are neither hungry nor stuffed. Take a few deep breaths in through your nose, out through your mouth to center yourself, and you’ll be good to go.
2. Using the scratch paper provided by the proctor, jot down all those miscellaneous facts that you are harboring in your mind to allow yourself to relax or the items you have been struggling to remember for the test, so you can start your test with a clear focused mind. Just like people who can’t sleep, experts recommend writing down the list of items that keep you awake or wake you up at night, this process that McGowan advocates will help free your mind with those little items of knowledge that are turning over and over in your brain. Now you’ll have them written down for reference!
3.Keep everything simple. The exam is written to the most simplistic level possible. Do not infer or over-think the question. Assumptions are a sure way to fail the exam. Play it straight-forward!
So relax, write, and keep it concise! We know you’ll do the best you can DO, but these tips are also to help you be the best that you can BE in your test performance.
